Day 1 Delhi arrival

Your scheduled arrival will be in Delhi, the country capital to begin the Foot Steps of Buddha Tour. Vacations & Journeys representative will welcome you on the airport and accompany you to the hotel for check in. After check in, unwind and relax for some time. If you are lively enough in the evening you will be taken to visit the Akshardham Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, it is the largest planned temple complex in India.

Day 2 Travel from Delhi to Jaipur (268 kms)

After breakfast you will leave for the second destination of the tour that is Jaipur. The capital city of Rajasthan state of India, Jaipur is known for the royal heritage of the Rajput Kings. In Jaipur visit the Jantar Mantar, drive past the Hawa Mahal and at night visit the Albert Hall Museum. At night unlax in the hotel in Jaipur.

Day 3 Travel from Jaipur to Fatehpur Sikri to Agra (256 kms to 36 kms)

On the third day you will be taken to the next destination, Agra. Agra is a part of the Golden Triangle of India which also includes Delhi and Jaipur. On your way to Agra, visit the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri. The city was established by Mughal Emperor Akbar on the advice of Sufi Saint Salim Chishti. A World Heritage Site, visit the Fatehpur Sikri Fort complex which consists of several archaic Mughal buildings. Continue with the drive to Agra and shortly after Fatehpur Sikri you will reach Agra. Check in and refresh in the hotel in Agra and get set to explore Agra. Visit the Tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah, the baby version of Taj Mahal, built by Nur Jahan Begum. Thereafter you will be taken to see the sunset view of Taj Mahal in the evening.

Day 4 Travel from Agra to Varanasi (608 kms)

Early in the morning you will be taken to visit the Agra Fort and see the marvelous monuments inside the fort complex and then a visit to the Taj Mahal is scheduled. On viewing the Taj Mahal from close you will be even more surprised by the small details which are taken care of while making the carvings on the walls. Then you will be taken to the Agra Airport for travelling to Varanasi. Reach Varanasi and check in the hotel and relax during the night.

Day 5 Travel from Varanasi to Sarnath (12 kms)

The day begins with breakfast and then you will be taken to Sarnath. An important pilgrimage site, here is the place where Lord Buddha gave his first preaching. The first lesson was given to the disciples in the Deer Park in Sarnath. In Sarnath you will see the Dhamek Stupa where ascetics were buried in the same posture they used to meditate. Then see the Chaukhandi Stupa and then visit the Sarnath Museum to see the findings of the excavations from the Archeological sites in Sarnath and which belong to the Buddhist era. Drive back to Varanasi and retire for the night.

Day 6 Travel from Varanasi to Bodh Gaya (255 kms)

On the day 6 of the Foot Steps of Buddha Tour, you will travel to Bodh Gaya from Varanasi. Here you will check in and take some rest after reaching the hotel. Bodh Gaya is in the Gaya district of Bihar state of India. It is one of the four important pilgrimage sites for the Buddhists and Gautam Buddha attained salvation here. It is said while Buddha achieved total enlightenment he was sitting under a tree which is now known as the ‘Bodhi Tree’. Spend the night in Bodh Gaya.

Day 7 Bodh Gaya sightseeing

You will be taken to visit the pilgrimage site of the Mahabodhi Temple which has the ‘Bodhi Tree’ and the diamond throne called the Vajrasana, in its complex.  The Mahabodhi Temple was built by King Ashoka and later restored by the Kushana King in the first century. But with time it got buried in sand and soil before the archeologists Sir Alexander Cunningham along with J.D Belgar and Rajandralal Miitra found this site. The first signs of this temple were found in the writings of the Chinese Pilgrims Fa Xian and Xuan Zang in the 5th and 7th century. After the daylong exploration of the World Heritage Site of the Mahabodhi Temple, return to the hotel for dinner and rest at night.

Day 8 Travel from Bodh Gaya to Rajgir to Nalanda to Patna (70 kms-14 kms-90 kms)

Leave Bodh Gaya after a delicious breakfast and reach the next destination Rajgir in Bihar. Its ancient name was ‘Rajgraha’ meaning ‘residence of the King’; it was the first capital of Magadha Kingdom which later developed into the Mauryan Empire. In Rajgir you will visit the Vishwa Shanti Stupa, which is one among the 80 Peace Pagodas of the world. Rajgir is also known for the Venuvana Monastery, Gridhkuta Peak and the ruins of Bimbsara Prison. Shortly after Rajgir you will reach Nalanda which is known for the World Oldest University which was the Nalanda University. Here you will see the ruins of the ancient Nalanda University and then drive forward to reach Patna.

Day 9 Travel from Patna to Kushinagar (234 kms)

After breakfast travel to Kushinagar, your next stop in the Foot Steps of Buddha Tour. Kushinagar is the place where Gautam Buddha received Parinirvana after his death and his 6.1 meters long idol is present in the Prainiravan Stupa in Kushinagar. The idol is in reclining position and is made from monolith red sandstone. The actual site where Lord Buddha died is in the stupa situated just behind the Parinirvana Stupa called the Nirvana Chaitya. Then visit the Ramabhar Stupa which is the site where Lord Buddha’s body was cremated. There are several other temples and monasteries in the complex. The night will be spent in the hotel in Kushinagar.

Day 10 Travel from Kushinagar to Lumbini (168 kms)

From Kushinagar in India you will move to Lumbini in Nepal on this day of the tour following the footsteps of Lord Buddha. Lumbini is the palce where Lord Gautam Budhha was born to the Shakya King Suddhodana and Queen Maya Devi. Lumbini is an enlisted World Heritage Site of UNESCO and has various historical temples and excavated sites. Kapilavastu is the actual site believed to be the Kingdom of the father of Lord Buddha. Also visit the Devdaha which was the maternal place of Lord Buddha. Overnight stay in Lumbini.

Day 11 Travel from Lumbini to Sravasti (226 kms)

Travel to the next destination of the tour, Sravasti. It is a district in Uttar Pradesh, where Gautam Buddha spent 24 Chaturmases (monsoons) of his life. Visit the old Buddha Temple and the Buddha Garden in Sravasti. There are a number of Stupas, Viharas and temples dating back to the period of 1st to 10th century along with the Anand Bodhi Tree. Enjoy the spiritual and pious feeling in these places and relax in the hotel after daylong excursion.

Day 12 Travel from Sravasti to Lucknow(179 kms)

Have a delicious and nutritious breakfast in Sravasti and travel to the Capital City of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow. Visit the Chota Imambara and Bada Imambara to get surprised by the fascinating architecture of these monunents. In the evening visit the Ambedkar Memorial Park and experience freshness, peace and some alluring scenes in the park. Take rest at night in the hotel in Lucknow.

Day 13 Departure

Ending the tour, you will be transferred to the Lucknow Airport to board flight to Delhi from where you will board your flight back to home.
