Day 1    Mumbai arrival
The South India Saffron & Sandalwood Tour begins with your arrival at the Mumbai Airport. On reaching the airport you will be welcomed by a Vacations & Journeys representative and he will be transferring you to the pre reserved hotel in Mumbai. You are free to spend the rest of the day according to your preference. If you are a nightlife lover you are in the right city. Explore the sparkling clubs and lounges in Mumbai or hang around in any of the multi-cuisine restaurants and meet new people.

Day 2    Mumbai sightseeing
The Economic Capital of the Country, Mumbai also houses various spectacular monuments from the colonial times. You will see the following monument in Mumbai- the Gateway of India, the Elephanta Caves, Rajabhai Clock Tower, Prince of Whales Museum and you will see the spectacular World Heritage Site, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus with a drive past the Marine Drive. After the City Tour of Mumbai you will relax during the night in the hotel.

Day 3    Travel from Mumbai to Madurai (1425 kms)
On the third day of the South India Saffron and Sandalwood Tour you will proceed towards the South Indian destinations of the tour. The first destination you will be reaching is Madurai. You will be taking flight from Mumbai to reach here. Madurai is situated in Tamil Nadu state of India and is famous for the Meenakshi Amman Temple. On reaching Madurai you will check into the reserved hotel and take rest overnight.

Day 4    Madurai sightseeing
After relishing a delicious breakfast you will be taken to visit the wondrous Meenakshi Amman Temple. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati and the temple has 14 Gopurams and each one of them is built with finesse and colored brightly. This is one of the largest and beautiful temples in India. The magnificent Meenakshi Amman Temple complex is a must visit of you are in Madurai. The other attractions in Madurai are Gandhi Memorial Museum, Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal, Alagar Koyil Temple, etc. You will have to stay for the night in Madurai.

Day 5    Travel from Madurai to Thanjavur (189 kms)
From Madurai you will be travelling to Thanjavur or Tanjore. Tanjore district in Tamil Nadu was prominently ruled by the Chola Dynasty. However, it was also ruled by Nayaks, Pandiyas and Marathas for brief periods. Thanjavur is famous for the temples built by the Cholas and is also called the ‘Rice Bowl of India’. On reaching Thanjavur you will check in, after this you will be freed to relax for some time and have unguided exploration of Thanjavur with shopping and walking.


Day 6    Thanjavur sightseeing
Wake up early in the morning to visit the Brihadeeswarar Temple in Tanjore. It is one of the largest temples in India, built in Dravidian style its construction was commenced by Raja Rajeshwara in 10th century. The Brihadeeswarar Temple forms a part of the World Heriatge Monuments list of UNESCO under the ‘Great Living Chola Temples’ along with the Gangaikonda Cholapuram and Airavateswara Temple. The temple walls have decorative murals and various sculptures of dancers in different dance postures. Visit the temple followed by the visit to the Thanjavur Royal Palace and Museum to know more about this destination.


Day 7    Travel from Thanjavur to Puducherry (166 kms)
Spend the morning in leisure activities and then you will check out from the hotel in Thanjavur to leave for Puducherry, it is the new name of Pondicherry. Pondicherry had French colonial settlement and hence has several buildings and places belonging to that period. You are free to take rest after reaching the hotel in Puducherry.


Day 8    Puducherry sightseeing
There are several places of interest in Puducherry. In the morning you will be visiting the Aurbindo Ashram, which is among the Popular Tourist Attractions in Pondicherry and here you will find an amazing blend of spirituality and peacefulness. It was founded by Shri Aurbindo Ghosh and Mira Alfassa. After this, visit the spectacular Auroville which was designed by a French designer named Roger Anger, then you will be visiting the Immaculate Conception Cathedral which is a beautiful church built in 1791 by the French, then have a relaxing walk by the Promenade Beach. Night stay in Puducherry.


Day 9    Travel from Puducherry to Chennai (170 kms)
On the ninth day of South India Saffron & Sandalwood Tour you will be transferred to Chennai. Also known with the name of Madras, Chennai is located on the eastern coast of India located near Bay of Bengal. Chennai is an art and culture centre of South India and is a corporate hub as well. Relax and spend the remaining time of the day according to your interest.


Day 10    Chennai sightseeing
Chennai is the capital of Tamil Nadu and is rapidly developing. This city has number of tourist attractions including the buildings which were built during the British East India Company rule here. You will have a City Exploration Tour of Chennai in which you will see the Fort Saint George which is the first English Fortress in India built in 1644 which now serves as state legislative assembly and also houses various other monuments inside, followed by the visit to the San Thome Basilica built by the Portuguese and later rebuilt by the British in 1893 with state of the art architecture and majestic exteriors and interiors, this basilica is a wonderful place. Then you will visit the Kapaleeshwarar Temple in Chennai, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parvati, the seventh century temple was built by Tuluva Dynasty rulers. The amazing temple has an intricately built temple Gopuram in Dravidian style architecture. Later in the evening you may choose to visit the beaches in Chennai, the most famous beaches here are the Marina Beach, Golden Beach and the Edward Elliot’s Beach. At night take rest in the hotel in Chennai.

Day 11    Travel from Chennai to Bengaluru (348 kms)
On the eleventh day of the South India Saffron and Sandalwood Tour you will move to the capital of the South Indian state of Karnataka named Bengaluru, earlier called as Bangalore, it is the Silicon City of India. On reaching Bengaluru you will check in and take some rest here. In the evening you will do some sightseeing in the city. You will have an amazing night view of the Bangalore Palace and you may also visit the famous Iskcon Temple in Bengaluru.


Day 12    Travel from Bengaluru to Nagarhole (220 kms)
After an early breakfast in the morning you will have a visit to the amazing Lal Bagh in Bengaluru, the Lal Bagh is a famous botanical garden and was initially built as a royal garden, the park has various impressive structures of animals and historical monuments built with flowers and a beautiful glass house also increases the charm of this garden. Then have a visit at the Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, the amazing built palace has a number of pillars supporting a hall and is built in Indo-Islaamic architectural style. Beautifully decorated walls and pillars are the attraction of this palace. After your visit proceed to Nagarhole, the next destination of the tour. On reaching Nagarhole you will be brought to the reserved hotel where you can relax and spend time in leisure.


Day 13    Nagarhole National Park Sightseeing
Relish a tempting breakfast and move for the visit to Nagarhole National Park for some wildlife exploration in the South India. Used as a hunting reserve by the Wodeyar D
ynasty it was declared as a national park in the year 1988. Spread in an area of 642.2 square kilometers, is a habitat to a large species of animals and plants. You will enjoy a game drive or a jungle safari here and sight animals like elephants, Indian tigers, Sloth bears, otters, leopards, swamp deers, wild boars, and antelopes along with many other varieties of mammals, reptiles, birds and amphibians. Night stay in the resort in Nagarhole.


Day 14    Travel from Nagarhole to Mysore (89 kms)
After the morning breakfast you will leave for Mysore or Mysuru. On your way from Nagarhole to Mysore you will be taken for a visit to the Chamundi Hills and the Chamundeshwari Temple situated over the hills at an elevation of a thousand meters. The temple has giant idol of a Hindu mythological demon named Mahishasura and a monolith idol of the bull God Nandi. Continue driving to Mysore and check in at the hotel and spend time in relaxing. Mysore is the Sandalwood capital of the country. The sandalwood is harvested in Mysore and is then exported to various parts of the country and abroad. Sandalwood is used for preparation of cosmetics as it has several skin enriching properties. You can shop for unadulterated Sandalwood and its products here in the markets of Mysore. At night you can visit the Mysore Palace for its grandiose. The palace looks extremely stunning when lit by multiple lights at night.


Day 15    Mysore sightseeing
The ‘City of Palaces’ has various fascinating palaces for you to visit. You will be visiting the Mysore Palace first of all. The Official residence of the Royal Wodeyar Family, the palace is second most visited monument in the country after the Taj Mahal. The Mysore Palaces is built with the awesome blend of Indo-Saracenic, Muslim, Rajput and Gothic architecture. The palace looks even more fascinating in the evening when it is illuminated by thousand of lights. Then you will visit the Jagmohan Palace which is also a gift by the Wodeyars to the City of Mysore. In Mysore you can also visit the Folk Lore Museum, Mysore Zoological Zoo, St. Philomena’s Church, Brindavan Garden, etc. You will spend the night in the reserved hotel in Mysore.


Day 16    Travel from Mysore to Chennai (478 kms)
This day is booked for travelling from Mysore to Chennai.  You will leave for Chennai after enjoying a brunch in the hotel. You will see lush green outer areas of the Mysore City with cultivation of rice, sunflower, maize, cotton, grams, etc. On reaching Chennai you can now unwind and relax in the hotel.


Day 17    Departure
After experiencing the richness of the nature in India on your South India Saffron and Sandalwood Tour you will leave for your home from the Chennai Airport. We will drop you at the airport from where you will board your flight.
